Scope
We provide the full spectrum of IPS services to our Healthcare clients on a nationwide basis. Because we have significant focus in this technology area and broad geographic penetration, we can offer hospitals unequalled and unbiased support and guidance in a very cost-effective manner.
Experience
Our personnel have been involved with Isolated Power System applications since the 1970’s – having worked extensively with, and gaining certification from, such Industry leaders as Square D/Schneider Electric, Siemens, Isotrol Systems and Bender Inc.
Stability
Through all of the Code changes and industry confusion concerning IPS application and testing requirements, Powerserve Inc. has “stood the test of time” – consistently offering and delivering Code-compliant advice and on-site solutions.
Staying in Compliance
Each of the IPS Services outlined below is intended to keep hospitals in compliance with the requirements of CMS, TJC, DNV NIAHO, NFPA 99, NEC and local and state guidelines.
Medical Isolated Power Systems
Powerserve Inc. has been, by far, the most active Independent 3rd Party Isolated Power System (IPS) service company in the U.S. for many years!

An Arc Flash Analysis is the cornerstone of any electrical safety program and is critical to ensuring that your facility is in compliance with industry standards and new arc flash safety requirements. Without this analysis and and an understanding of the available fault current and protective device clearing times, it is not possible to select the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for your personnel. For this reason, the following Standards now mandate that employers assess the arc-flash hazards to their employees:
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.132 (d) requires that employers evaluate their workplace to determine whether hazards exist, and that employees utilize the appropriate PPE for these hazards. Written certification is required to verify that a hazard analysis has been conducted for each particular location of the facility.
NFPA 70E requires that an Arc Flash Analysis be performed to protect employees from injury and to determine the appropriate level of PPE.
NESC Part 4, Section 41 requires that – effective January 1, 2009 – employers ensure that an analysis is conducted to determine the potential exposure to an electric arc for employees who work on or near energized parts of equipment.
In addition to identifying the appropriate PPE for personnel at each location in your facility, through an Arc Flash Analysis it is also possible to identify opportunities for reducing / mitigating incident arc-energy levels at locations that exceed PPE Level 2. Powerserve Inc. has the tools and experience to conduct such an analysis.
What we will do:Identify the equipment locations where an arc flash analysis is requiredCollect the required data at each locationPrepare a system model and single-line diagramPrepare a short-circuit study to determine available fault currentsPrepare arc flash calculations per NFPA 70E and IEEE 1584Identify appropriate PPE per risk levels defined in NFPA 70EPropose arc flash mitigation solutions for eqpt that exceeds PPE Level 2Calculate the arc flash protection boundariesDocument results and provide appropriate equipment labelsProvide technical and safety training on arc flash hazardsIPS Services
